How to Use Silagen Silicone Gel for Best Results

Follow these steps when using Silagen silicone gel to treat scars.

  • Begin use after 2 weeks (you may begin using the gel once the wound has closed - no bleeding or oozing) and after any removable stitches have been removed
  • Do not put on open wounds
  • Ensure the scar area is clean and dry, as well as free from creams, lotions, ointments and powders
  • Apply a very small amount of gel to the scar and gently massage.
  • Allow drying
  • Once dry, cosmetics and compression garments may be used over the scar
  • Use twice daily for 8-12 weeks for optimal results. Patients who use Silagen consistently twice a day for 2 months get the best results
  • If you are prone to forming excessive scars (hypertrophic or keloid) you may want to continue treatment for up to 6 months
  • Do not use the gel under Silagen silicone sheets, strips, or shapes. They will not stick to the skin if you do

This product involves an airless pump. In order to prime it, turn the bottle upside down and tap it 10 times on the bottom. Then press the pump multiple times until the product dispenses.

So happy to find the Skin Spot! My surgeon reccomended this brand specifically after sutures were removed from my face following a dog attack. It was hard to find but Silagen is such a superior product, I purchased a different silicone while I was waiting for my Skin Spot order to arrive and what a difference! The Silagen formula dries very quickly while the other product did not. I apply a very small amount of this in the evening and the SPF Silagen in the morning. I don't understand the reviews, this product leaves a residue and does not absorb into the skin. i was hoping to at least buy a 4 starts product as i realistically know scars are difficult to heal. My scar has just a few weeks old and i unstopped using Skinuva thinking silagen was more effective. i was completely wrong. going back to SKINUVA as my surgeon advised.

Smooth and Quick Drying

I first heard about this product on a YouTube video by a leading plastic surgeon. I didn’t get the gel at first, went with the strips. When applied properly, the gel forms a thin, flexible silicone layer over the scar. This barrier helps regulate skin moisture and collagen remodeling, which can flatten raised scars, reduce redness, and smooth scar texture over time. 
You should begin using Silagen Scar Gel only once the wound has fully healed — meaning there is no open skin, bleeding, or oozing, and if there were stitches, they have been removed. Silicone gels should never be applied to fresh, unhealed wounds. 
Wash and dry the scar area first. Then apply a very thin layer of Silagen Scar Gel on the scar and gently spread the gel to cover the entire area. Allow the gel to dry completely (usually 3-5 minutes). Most guidelines recommend applying silicone gel twice daily (morning and evening) on clean, dry skin. 
Results vary depending on the scar type, age, and how consistently you apply the gel. Many people notice early changes — like softer scar texture or reduced redness — within a few weeks. But for meaningful flattening and smoothing, treatment often needs to continue for at least 8–12 weeks. For older or more severe scars, a longer period (several months) may be needed.
